If Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was seeking wealth through claiming prophethood, then why did he lead a much poorer life after the revelation than he did before it? How come a month, and sometimes two, would pass without a fire lit in his household to cook a single meal? If he were after a lavish lifestyle, then why did he sleep on a straw mat that left marks on his back?
Even when the Muslim community became strong and rich, the Prophet maintained a self-imposed simplicity as he lived like a poor though he could have lived like a king. Why would a famous and truthful person like the Prophet falsify the revelation, especially if he would gain absolutely nothing but suffering and persecution in return? Why did he decline his tribe's offer of money, power, and kingship when he could have had it all?
